Strzlecki

New World Energy has acquired two strategically positioned Geothermal Exploration Licences in South Australia. These permits were acquired during the “second-wave” of South Australian geothermal applications and have both been granted and are nearing the end of their first year of tenure. Each permit has the potential to host Hot Rock and Hot Aquifer resources and are located in different geological terrains.

Strzlecki Project – GEL 352

The Strzlecki project is situated within the Cooper Basin in far north eastern South Australia (Figure 15), between Geodynamics Limited’s Innamincka project (~100km to the northeast) and Petratherm’s Paralana project (~90km to the southwest).

The project was targeted on the basis that it lay within the extensive thermal anomaly that hosts Geodynamics Innamincka project and occurred on a localised thermal high within this anomaly. It was also chosen as it was likely to lie close to the optimal transmission route(s) to deliver power from Geodynamics and/or Petratherm’s projects. It has the potential to host Hot Rock and Hot Aquifer resources.

Due to the proximity of the project to the Moomba gas field there is abundant geological data which will be the subject of a detailed study to determine geothermal potential over the coming year.
